A research study done on 3,000 patients found that those who exercised regularly were able to reduce their anxiety be an average of 20% versus those who did not exercise. Matthew Herring of the UGA College of Education went on to say, “Our findings add to the growing body of evidence that physical activities such as walking or weight lifting may turn out to be the best medicine that physicians can prescribe to help their patients feel less anxious.” Although this study did not deal with the weight loss population I believe that for many people this may just be the trick they’ve been looking for to take control of their weight loss efforts and focus their intentions to stay on track.  Plus, adding a consistent exercise component to your current weight loss program can’t hurt. At worst you’ll burn a few more calories per day, and the flip side is that the powerful endorphins that are released when you workout may just allow you to stay fixated on the brighter side on your path to weight loss success! Like I mentioned in my post about compulsive eating, I think I’ve never talked about these things because I wasn’t sure anyone would understand.  Although I’m moved on from binge eating and can’t even remember my last binge, I still feel the need to share these reasons for my obesity.  How does it do anyone any good to know how I’m losing weight if they don’t know what caused it?  How does it do me any good? So I’m continuing my post series about reasons why I became obese and today I’m tackling my past with binge eating. I think this is appropriate timing because over the last few weeks I’ve had the urge to binge.  Seemingly out of nowhere it hit me – the desire to eat and eat until I feel sick and can’t focus on anything else.  It’s happened a few times and although I haven’t actually done it, I’ve been shocked by the powerful pull I feel towards binging.
